VISIT THE CHAPI VIRGIN

The origin of the devotion to the Virgin of Chapi has been lost in the time. An old tradition tells us that the image was found on a hill next to Churajón. According to a document, it was moved following an earthquake in 1743, from the hamlet of Paranay to the old valley of Chapi, 4.6 kilometers from the present Sanctuary of Chapi, also known as Chapi Viejo.

Due to a series of excesses that were committed during his party, in 1793, the parish priest of Pocsi ordered the transfer of the image to Sogay, town near Quequeña. Acting the order, proceeded to move the image. It had already advanced a long way, when the entourage stopped to rest and regain strength. At that moment the wind began to rise, producing a great storm of sand.

When restarting the day, by more efforts that the porters did not manage to lift the image. They tried again and again, not achieving the goal.
